January 2012 - Moonen Shipyards in the Netherlands is making excellent progress with the construction of a long distance explorer-type yacht. The all-new Vripack designed Moonen 100 is a robust exhibition-style vessel that also benefits from exceptional smooth lines. Combining major fuel efficiencies with comprehensive life aboard facilities, so this compact Explorer will allow her owners – who are extensively involved in the build - to truly travel the world in exceptional comfort.
Vripack and Moonen Shipyards have teamed up in specifying the concept for a Moonen repeat owner who plans to travel the world. Vripack has been responsible for the design, naval architecture, engineering and interior design, while Moonen takes care of the detailed and interior engineering of this gracious expedition vessel. The hull and superstructure are built and outfitting is scheduled to start in February. The yacht is slated for launching in the spring of 2013.
Because the Moonen 100 will travel exceptionally long distances Vripack Naval Architects designed her with high levels of fuel-efficiency that increase the range, reduce costs and minimise the yacht’s environmental impact. This has been achieved by an efficient hull shape, bulbous bow, sophisticated weight-saving measures, and highly efficient propellers and engines giving her a range of 5,000 Nm at 10 knots. Comfort is also given a priority, with low noise and vibration levels, an exceptional sea-keeping performance and impressive stability at anchor.
The layout of the Moonen 100 Explorer features three large suites in order to optimise comfort for the passengers. There will also be a well-equipped gym in the lazarette for the necessary exercise during lengthy voyages, while the sundeck will have all the features of a normal displacement yacht. Vripack design Studio created an interior around a ‘caravan’ theme, taking the exotic colours of an Istanbul market, camels and eastern herbs as its inspiration.
The model of the new Moonen 100 will be on display during BOOT Düsseldorf at our booth located in the heart of the Dutch pavilion, Hall 07A number F24.
